No. If your television is from roughly 2016 onwards it almost certainly runs a compatible player. Older sets can be brought up to date with an Amazon Firestick or any Android TV device, which costs far less than a dedicated set top box.
About 10 Mbps is enough for HD and 25 Mbps is comfortable for 4K. Test in the evening rather than the middle of the day, because that is when your line and the provider's servers are under the most load.
